To overcome the limitation of current centralised application management approaches, Swarmhestrate will develop a completely novel decentralised application-level orchestrator, based on the notion of self-organised interdependent Swarms. Application microservices are managed in a dynamic Orchestration Space by decentralised Orchestration Agents, governed by distributed intelligence that provides matchmaking between application requirements and resources, and supports the dynamic self-organisation of Swarms. The Swarmchestrate concept will be prototyped on four real-life demonstrators from the areas of flood prevention, parking space management, video analytics and a digital twin of natural habitat. The Swarmchestrate project brings together a unique combination of relevant multidisciplinary expertise and experience, and provides the necessary research and innovation capacity to implement the ambitious objectives of the project and deliver a groundbreakingly new decentralised management concept and framework for the execution of data processing applications in the Cloud-to-Edge computing continuum. The consortium incorporates 14 project partners altogether, coming from 10 European countries including nine member states and the United Kingdom and an international collaboration partner (South Korea). The partners represent a healthy balance between leading universities (UOW, TUB, TUNI, ICCS, UL, ENU, SNU), research institutes (SZTAKI, FBK), commercial companies (SUITE 5, FUEL, FEA, UST), and the Municipality of Trento (TRE) as end user to directly explore the utilisation of the project results.
