Project description:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to have two sides, like a coin. On one hand, it can be leveraged as a powerful defensive tool to improve systems' preparedness and response to incidents and attacks, enhancing defense against cyber threats. On the other hand, it can be a formidable weapon used by attackers to harm, compromise, or manipulate systems.

The AI4CYBER project aims to create next-generation trustworthy cybersecurity services that use AI and Big Data technologies to support system developers and operators in managing robustness, resilience, and dynamic response against sophisticated and advanced systems, as well as AI-based cyberattacks.

The project will develop novel AI-driven software robustness and security testing services, significantly easing the work of testing experts by identifying smarter bugs and automating code fixes.

Additionally, the project will provide cybersecurity services for understanding, detecting, and analyzing AI-driven attacks to make critical systems more resilient.

The incident response support offered by AI4CYBER will relieve security operators of complex and tedious tasks and provide assistance by offering mechanisms to optimize the coordination of the most appropriate actions, while continuously learning about the system's state and the effectiveness of defenses.

The AI4CYBER framework ensures fundamental rights and value-based AI technology in its services by integrating demonstrable explainability, fairness, and equity into the robustness (security) capabilities of the AI4CYBER system components.

The ecosystem will be validated in three scenarios: i) Detection and mitigation of AI-based attacks on energy systems, ii) Robustness and autonomous adaptation of banking applications against AI-based attacks, and iii) Resilience of hospital services against advanced and AI-based cyber-physical attacks.
